Content Guidelines
The JumpTap Mobile Search Index (MSI) is a collection of generally accessible mobile-friendly content.
JumpTap uses a series of proprietary technologies to aggregate, index, and search the content included
in this index. The following are the basic guidelines to have your mobile content considered for
inclusion in the MSI.
JumpTap currently defines mobile-friendly content as WML or XHTML formatted documents that can be accessed via mobile devices.
JumpTap uses a series of automated and editorial processes to identify new mobile-friendly content as it becomes available. If your mobile content meets the below guidelines, you can submit your site using our
Site Submission page to ensure it is considered for inclusion the JumpTap Mobile Search Index.
Technical Guidelines
- Use valid WML or XHTML markup
- Ensure that 'Jumpbot' has access to your mobile content and is not restricted via robots.txt exclusions. Reference the Jumpbot info page to learn more
- Properly link content within your site using bot friendly links that do not include excessive dynamic variables or session IDs
- Do not use frames
- Reference the W3C Mobile Web Best Practices for additional technical recommendations
Content Guidelines
JumpTap seeks to index mobile content that provides a high-quality user experience.
Items that JumpTap considers important to providing a high-quality user experience include:
- Sites designed for a mobile user and not specifically for a search engine or search engine algorithm
- Unique content that provides meaningful and useful information to a mobile user
- A site navigation scheme that is mobile friendly and provides access to all mobile pages on the site
- Provide a brief and meaningful page title
- Provide a text alternative for any non-text elements on the page
- Reference the W3C Mobile Web Best Practices for additional content recommendations
JumpTap specifically recommends that mobile site owners avoid:
- Purposely including excessive text or links that are not visible to a human user (hidden text)
- Cloaking to deceive the JumpTap bot
- Installing software on a handset without full-disclosure to, and agreement from, the mobile user
- Hiding, or attempting to hide, the adult nature of a site
- Using pop-ups or modifying the default size or behavior of the mobile browser
- Any tactic meant to trick or deceives the JumpTap bot or JumpTap search algorithms
JumpTap specifically avoids content that includes themes of hate, incitement of violence, rape, or otherwise illegal content.
These guidelines are meant to provide a summary of the JumpTap search technology and content requirements. JumpTap will take any action it deems necessary to preserve or enhance the quality of the JumpTap Mobile Search Index and the mobile search experience.
